Topic: Challenges of Sustainable Groundwater Management in India
Uma Aslekar co-leads ACWADAM, the Advanced Centre for Water Resource Development and Management, India’s single largest initiative at bridging the theory and practice of groundwater. For the past two decades, she has been engaged in the demystification of the science of hydrogeology, providing key scientific inputs into pioneering community-based efforts at groundwater management, throughout the length and breadth of the country. Her work, especially on PGWM – Participatory Ground Water Management - has fostered deeper understanding of the challenges and possibilities of groundwater management among the entire range of stakeholders -- government officials, people’s representatives, civil society organisations and academia.
