O.N. Bhargava, M.Sc. from the Lucknow University and Ph.D. from the Panjab University, a Fellow of the National Academy Science, worked in the Geological Survey of India for 35 years, dealing with various facets of the Western and the Bhutan Himalaya. He also served as a Faculty Member of the Training Institute of the Geological Survey of India and the Field Workshops in the Spiti Valley under the aegis of Association of Petroleum Geologist, and Visiting Professor, Vienna University He authored around 210 Research papers besides four books, and two edited volumes, which include two popular books: The Story of the Earth and The Story of Water. He is recipient of: i) National Mineral Award (1974), ii) L. Rama Rao Award (1992), iii) GSI Sesquicentennial Award from the Asiatic Society (2011), vi) Prof. R. C. Misra Memorial Life Time achievement Award (2015), and vii) Achiever Award, Panjab University Alumni Association, (2019). Currently, he is an Honorary Professor in the Panjab University
