Topic: Microbial life on an Alien World: the habitat of life in Early Earth
Dr Kathleen Campbell is a geologist / astrobiologist teaching and undertaking scientific research at The University of Auckland in New Zealand. I study crustal fluid-biota-sediment interactions in extreme environments -- terrestrial hot springs, marine hydrocarbon seeps -- to better understand the conditions under which early life on Earth flourished and became incorporated into the geological record. Her research with collaborators and students provides Earth analogues in the search for life elsewhere in the solar system, as well as tools for exploring for precious metals in hydrothermal system
